Even a major achievement from Taylor Swift’s latest album is struggling to compete with the ongoing buzz surrounding her personal life.
While fans eagerly anticipate the pop superstar’s wedding to Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce, one of her newest musical accomplishments has flown under the radar. On February 27, Opalite—the second single from her twelfth studio album The Life of a Showgirl—was certified Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).
Released just weeks earlier on January 12, the track has already achieved multi-platinum status in Canada and reached platinum in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. Hitting Platinum in Britain within such a short timeframe is no small feat. For comparison, most songs take months—or even years—to reach the 600,000 unit mark required for certification.
The timing of the award coincided with Opalite climbing to #1 in the UK, marking the first chart-topper from the Showgirl era in that region. The momentum followed the release of the song’s music video on February 6, which featured appearances from well-known names including Cillian Murphy, Domhnall Gleeson, Graham Norton, and Lewis Capaldi.
Despite these notable achievements, the milestone received limited media attention. Instead, headlines and social media conversations continue to focus heavily on Swift and Kelce’s rumored wedding plans.
For those unfamiliar, the couple—both 36—reportedly got engaged in August 2025. While neither has publicly confirmed a date, several outlets have reported that the wedding may take place on Saturday, June 13. The ceremony is said to be planned for Ocean House in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, a five-star resort located near Swift’s beachfront home.
