Jason Kelce recently opened up about his brother Travis Kelce’s lesser-known early NFL nickname during a candid episode of the New Heights podcast. The brothers’ playful dynamic continues to delight fans, and this latest revelation has only deepened their audience’s interest in their off-field chemistry.
In the Wednesday, April 1 episode, Jason finally shared that Travis’s rookie-day nickname was “Hoopsie.” The name resurfaced when Travis signed his recent contract extension. Jason then explained the funny story behind it, which perfectly captured Travis’s signature style and on-field personality during his early years in the league.
Travis embraced the nickname, admitting that during training camp in 2013–2014, he had trouble getting out of the huddle quickly—partly because of his iconic hoop earrings.
Keeping the humor going, Jason joked, “Do we need Hoopsie merch?” The Kansas City Chiefs star fired back, “Get Tommy Hilfiger on it,” hinting at a possible Hoopsie clothing line from his upcoming collaboration with the fashion brand.
Fans React Hilariously on Social Media
The New Heights X (formerly Twitter) account’s post about Travis’s newly revealed nickname triggered a wave of funny reactions from fans. One user joked, “Bigger the hoop… bigger the h*e.” Another wrote, “I knew one day if I was patient enough… I’d receive a crumb of slutty earring hope.” A third comment revealed another old nickname, saying, “And Zeus for us OG Travis fans.”
Interestingly, Jason doesn’t actually call Travis “Hoopsie” himself. Instead, he refers to his brother as “Big Yeti.”
That nickname, “Big Yeti,” dates back to Travis’s college days at the University of Cincinnati, where he played pickup basketball between football practices. His distinctive look—complete with a rugged beard, long hair, and a hairy chest—made him stand out on the court.
