Meghan Markle’s journey from beloved royal figure to polarising public personality has been a dramatic one. When she first began dating Prince Harry, the couple was celebrated as a fresh, modern force for the monarchy. But after stepping back from royal duties and moving to the US, public sentiment shifted, and the Duchess has frequently found herself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
Before their departure, Meghan spent over a year actively working as a senior royal. She joined the late Queen Elizabeth for a private day engagement and stood alongside King Charles, Prince William, and the Princess of Wales at numerous public events. Her integration into the family seemed, at least outwardly, to be progressing smoothly.
A Fresh Claim from the Coronation
Fast forward to 2023. Although Meghan had been living in California for three years, her presence still loomed over a major royal milestone—the coronation of King Charles. Prince Harry attended the ceremony alone, seated just behind his aunt, Princess Anne, and uncle, Prince Edward.
During the service, the two siblings were captured on camera in what appeared to be a private conversation. Now, years later, a lip-reading expert has come forward with an interpretation of that exchange, featured in a recent episode of Lip-Reading the Royals.
According to the expert, Prince Edward leaned in and said to Princess Anne: “They won’t know until they’ve broken up. We mustn’t let her get too comfy.”
Princess Anne allegedly replied: “Meghan is very jealous and a scaremonger.”
Later, as they shared a laugh, Anne reportedly added that she had ensured Meghan knew she was “idiot-proof.” Edward then supposedly responded: “We shall continue to ignore, but it’s the most effective way for removing the unwanted.”
Anne is said to have concluded: “We have amounted that there is a disconnection.”
Jealousy Accusations Resurface
Of course, without official confirmation, it’s impossible to say with certainty what was really discussed. But the claims have reignited old narratives about Meghan’s relationships within the family.
Royal commentator Dickie Arbiter didn’t hold back, stating: “Meghan has always been jealous—jealous of other members of the family. I can understand how the family reacts to her. There’s no love lost between them, and nor will there be.”
TV presenter Cristo Foufas also weighed in, noting that the alleged remarks felt consistent with long-standing tensions. However, he acknowledged that the conversation remains unverified.
Reports have long suggested that Princess Anne was never particularly warm toward Meghan, with some sources claiming she held reservations as early as 2018. Prince Edward, by contrast, has largely stayed out of the public feud, choosing to maintain a dignified silence throughout the ongoing drama between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal household.
