Teenage Wolves substitute Tom Edozie is celebrating after learning his Premier League debut goal has been credited to him—though for a while, it looked like it might go down as an own goal.
The 19-year-old, who came off the bench, initially had his strike recorded as a Riccardo Calafiori own goal. But early indications now suggest the goal is rightfully his, adding even more magic to an already unforgettable night.
Edozie said: “As a kid, you dream of moments like this. I’m just so thankful to Rob Edwards for putting me on the pitch—it’s a dream come true. Hopefully, it’s my goal!”
He admitted he was in shock when his name was called. “When he said my name, I didn’t think he meant me! I looked around, and my heart just started racing. But I was ready to go on and do whatever I could to help the team.”
Mid-interview, Edozie received the news that the goal was indeed his. Overwhelmed with emotion, he said: “It means the world. To score on my Premier League debut—I can’t even describe the feeling. It’s just amazing.”
Nearby, fellow Wolves goalscorer Hugo Bueno—who also netted his first Premier League goal on the night—grinned and joked: “It took me a little longer than him!”
Bueno’s strike came after 67 top-flight appearances, making it a long-awaited and well-earned moment. Together, the pair delivered one of the most heartwarming interviews of the year.
