Kim Kardashian has publicly addressed the brief appearance and swift deletion of photos featuring Meghan Markle and Prince Harry from social media posts about Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday party last November.
On her sister Khloe’s podcast, Khloe in Wonder Land, Kim discussed what the family jokingly called “Photogate,” calling the situation “really innocent.” She explained that her mother, Kris Jenner, and Meghan have been friends for years and share “a really sweet relationship.”
According to Kim, after the James Bond-themed party—hosted by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez—the family reviewed photos and believed they had permission to post them. “We were told that it was totally cool to post,” she said.
However, after the photos went up on Instagram, she says Meghan and Harry realized the timing coincided with Remembrance Day in the U.K., a solemn holiday honoring fallen members of the armed forces. Although the couple had attended the Baby2Baby charity gala earlier that evening, they reportedly felt that images of them “partying and dancing” at a celebration might be seen as inappropriate on such a day.
“So we took them down to respect Remembrance Day,” Kim stated.
She expressed frustration that the incident was blown out of proportion, suggesting it could have been handled with humor. “If we just made it light and made it funny… I think it would have been received differently,” Kim remarked, even joking about staging a playful Skims campaign where photos are posted and deleted shortly after.
This explanation contrasts with previous reports. At the time, a source close to the Sussexes told PEOPLE that Meghan and Harry had not consented to the photos being shared and had checked “no” on a photo consent form. However, another source involved with the event denied the existence of any such forms.
The removed posts included a photo of Kris Jenner posing with Meghan and Harry, as well as one of Kim with Meghan. Both were deleted from their Instagram accounts shortly after being shared.
