After six seasons of smoke-filled rooms, brutal gangland warfare, and the tortured genius of Thomas Shelby, the story of the Peaky Blinders is finally getting its big-screen conclusion. Creator Steven Knight is set to deliver the final chapter with a feature film titled The Immortal Man, bringing Cillian Murphy back to the cobbled streets of Birmingham.
Since it first aired in 2013, Peaky Blinders has captivated audiences with its post-WWI setting, following the rise of the Shelby crime family as they fought off rivals, navigated treacherous politics, and battled their own inner demons. The sixth season ended on a surprisingly hopeful note for Tommy Shelby; after being told he had a terminal brain tumour, he discovered the diagnosis was a cruel, fabricated lie from an enemy. He rode off, seemingly ready to leave the violence behind.
But as any fan knows, you don’t just walk away from the Peaky Blinders. The upcoming film, The Immortal Man, will explore exactly what happens next. After years of speculation, the project was officially given the green light in 2024, and with its release just around the corner, here’s everything you need to know about this “explosive” new chapter.
When Will the Film Be Released?
After numerous delays—including the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic—Netflix finally greenlit the project in June 2024. Filming began shortly after in September and wrapped by the end of the year. Unlike a standard Netflix release, The Immortal Man is getting a proper theatrical debut. Fans will be able to catch it in select cinemas starting March 6, 2026, before it makes its way to the streaming platform on March 20.
With the release date looming, a tense new trailer has dropped, confirming that Tommy’s peaceful exile is short-lived. The footage shows him being pulled back to Birmingham to handle “unfinished business.” Long-time fans will be thrilled to know that the show’s signature sound remains intact; composers Antony Genn and Martin Slattery are returning to score the film, with contributions from Amy Taylor (Amyl & the Sniffers) and members of Fontaines D.C.
Who Is in the Cast?
Of course, Cillian Murphy is back as the iconic Tommy Shelby, stepping into the role that defined a generation of television. He’s joined by a mix of familiar and fresh faces. Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) will reprise the role of Duke Shelby, Tommy’s wayward son who was introduced in the final season. The official trailer suggests that Duke is now running the Peaky Blinders “like it’s 1919 all over again,” and has found himself entangled in the dangerous politics of World War Two, forcing his father to return.
The new cast additions are equally impressive. Dune star Rebecca Ferguson, veteran actor Tim Roth, and Jay Lycurgo have all joined the project in currently undisclosed roles, adding a layer of mystery to the plot.
What Is It About?
The official synopsis sets the stage for a high-stakes drama: “Birmingham, 1940. Amidst the chaos of WWII, Tommy Shelby is driven back from a self-imposed exile to face his most destructive reckoning yet. With the future of the family and the country at stake, Tommy must face his own demons, and choose whether to confront his legacy, or burn it to the ground. By order of the Peaky Blinders…”
It appears that while Tommy has tried to move on, the world—and his family—has not. With his son at the helm and the war creating a new, dangerous landscape, the ghosts of the past are calling him home for one final, bloody reckoning.
