New Baltimore Ravens head coach Jesse Minter has quickly made a pivotal addition to his staff, securing 29-year-old Declan Doyle as the team’s offensive coordinator.
Doyle, a fast-rising offensive strategist, joins the Ravens after a successful season helping to revitalize the Chicago Bears’ offense. While Head Coach Ben Johnson called the plays in Chicago, Doyle served as offensive coordinator and was instrumental in crafting game plans. The move to Baltimore represents a promotion, as Doyle is expected to assume play-calling duties. He reportedly withdrew from the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive coordinator search to accept the role with the Ravens.
His former boss, Ben Johnson, offered high praise: “Dec’s done a phenomenal job this year,” Johnson stated. “He’s everything I thought he was gonna be and some. He’s got a tremendous presence in front of the players. Extremely smart… I think the future’s bright for a guy like Declan.”
Doyle faces a significant challenge: returning the Ravens’ offense to elite status. After leading the league in yards in 2024, Baltimore slipped to 16th in yards and 11th in points last season, hampered in part by injuries to quarterback Lamar Jackson. A key task will be helping Jackson, who is the same age as his new coordinator, recapture his two-time MVP form.
The Bears’ dramatic offensive turnaround under Doyle’s guidance is a promising sign. In one season, Chicago soared from last in the NFL in total yards in 2024 to sixth (369.2 per game) in 2025, and from 28th to ninth (25.9) in points scored. This surge was fueled by quarterback Caleb Williams’ breakout season, where he threw for 3,942 yards and 27 touchdowns.
Despite being the youngest offensive coordinator in the league last year, Doyle brings a decade of coaching experience. His career began as a student assistant at Iowa in 2016, followed by roles as an offensive assistant with the New Orleans Saints (2019-2022) and tight ends coach with the Denver Broncos (2023-2024) before joining the Bears.
He has learned from some of the game’s top offensive minds, including Sean Payton in Denver and Ben Johnson in Chicago. Payton, a noted offensive innovator, once told Yahoo! Sports, “Right away, if you’re a player or a coach, you’re like, ‘This guy knows his [stuff]’… I was saying, ‘Hey, I want to invest a hundred thousand on Declan’s future.'”
Doyle himself has addressed his youth, noting last year, “The year I was born doesn’t really determine how well I can do this job… This is going to be my 10th year coaching, so I don’t really feel very ‘young’ in it.”
