The animated sequel “Zootropolis 2” (released as “Zootopia 2” in some regions) has officially become the highest-grossing Hollywood animated film of all time. The Disney production has earned $1.7 billion globally, surpassing the previous record of $1.69 billion set by “Inside Out 2” in 2024.
This milestone places “Zootropolis 2” ninth on the all-time global box office list, behind live-action giants like “Avatar,” “Titanic,” “Avengers: Endgame,” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman credited the film’s success to its global audience, stating, “This milestone belongs first and foremost to the fans around the world whose enthusiasm made it possible.” He added, “We’re incredibly proud of our filmmakers… ‘Zootropolis 2’ is an extraordinary achievement.”
The film, which reunites bunny officer Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) with fox con-artist Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) to investigate a mysterious new resident named Gary De’Snake (Ke Huy Quan), has broken several records. It scored the biggest opening weekend for an animated film upon its Thanksgiving release and became the fastest Hollywood animation to cross the $1 billion mark globally.
However, the overall global record for an animated feature remains with China’s “Ne Zha 2,” which earned $2.2 billion in 2023, the majority from its domestic market.
